Authorities made a rugged find at Fort Hood Base, where Private Vanessa Guillén was killed in April. This is Private Elder Fernandes, 23, and who was found hanging from a tree.

Death and mystery at Fort Hood

According to the data collected, Fernandes disappeared on August 19 and by the 25th of the same month was discovered near the train tracks in Temple, Texas.

The coroner gave his results a few hours ago emphasizing his death as suicide. For her part, her family’s lawyer, Natalie Khawam, publicly said Fernandes was found hanging from a tree, but police have not confirmed her announcement.

8 Soldiers Died this year at Fort Hood

Congress is now investigating a total of 28 deaths at Fort Hood Base, including Guillen and Fernandes Base.

Vanessa Guillen’s murder, the suicide of her murderer and another body found during Private Guillen’s disappearance investigation, uncovered a can of worms inside Fort Hood Base.

Guillen disappeared on April 22, and his remains were found at the end of June. By this time, activists took to the streets to demand clarity from the U.S. Armed Forces corps, securing more deaths within the military base in Texas.

Now, Congress is investigating the mysterious disappearances, deaths and sexual assaults of soldiers.

The measure is led by Representatives Stephen Lynch (D-Mass) and Jackie Speier (D-Calif), chairmen of the Subcommittee on National Security of the Oversight and Reform Committee and the Military Personnel Subcommittee of the Armed Services Committee, respectively.

Among the cases to be clarified is that of Private Gregory Morales, whose body was found while Guillen was being sought and the death of Private Mejhor Morta, who was found drowned in a lake.

The two politicians sent a letter to Army Secretary Ryan D. McCarthy demanding documents and information about the deaths, as well as a summary of the response of Fort Hood leaders after each death.

Between 2014 and 2019, there were an average of 129 felonies committed annually in Fort Hood according to Army data referred to in the letter.
